Responsibilities
The Ramp/Baggage Handler Customer Service Agent (CSA) provides assistance to the traveling public by ensuring the safe, secure and timely movement of baggage through the warehouse/terminal area to the aircraft.
The primary function of a CSA is to load, unload and transfer baggage/cargo/mail from one place to another.
In addition to loading baggage, CSA's are responsible for guiding aircraft into and out of the terminal jet way areas by communicating with pilots.
CSA's use a variety of equipment such as two-way radios, baggage transfer vehicles, handheld tracking devices to perform the essential functions of their job.
CSA's work in an outdoor, physically demanding, extremely safety sensitive, deadline driven environment.
Qualifications
Must have the ability to stand, bend, stoop, and crawl for extended periods of time and lift 100 lbs. repeatedly
Must be able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
Must be able to tolerate working in an outdoor environment with high noise levels and extreme climate/weather conditions.
Must possess a valid STATE driver's license. Suspended, expired, revoked or denied are not considered valid.
Must be willing to adhere to Continental’s dress code.
Must maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
Previous outdoor and/or heavy lifting job experience and safety awareness preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship.
Must be flexible to work ANY shift that is assigned to you within a 24 hour/day, 7 day a week operation which can include late nights, early hours, weekends and holidays.
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to read, write and speak English.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-placement physical (including strength and hearing/vision testing) and drug screen.
In addition to the passing Continental’s background investigation, candidate must be able to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position. Position-specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal Service clearances.
Training for these positions will be provided by Continental in one of our HUB locations (Newark, Cleveland, or Houston). The training is paid at the hourly starting rate and will require a full time commitment for a period of up to 5 weeks. Must be able to attend the full time training at a date, time, and location to be selected by Continental and must be able to pass all training with a grade of 90% or better.
Must have resided in the United States for at least 4 ½ of the past 5 years (exceptions include: Active U.S. military personnel, trailing a spouse or dependent of someone in the U.S. military, a missionary, a Peace Corps volunteer, an exchange student, an employee of a U.S. based employer/company working abroad, or extraordinary circumstance).
