Responsibilities
Responsible for the safe and secure handling and transit of cargo and mail through the warehouse facilities and airport operations areas. Ensures that tooling, equipment, vehicles, and the facilities are operated in a safe and proficient manner and are always turned-over in good order.
Verifies and inspects cargo by count, weight, size, dimensions, and physical condition of all shipments.
Ensures proper and clear documentation of all pieces in shipment (both inbound and outbound) is received.
Ensures cargo shipments are maintained in the proper destination zones and containers while in transit through the facilities and via the service roads.
Works in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment including outdoors during all weather events.
Physically lifts up to 100 lbs repeatedly to facilitate the movement of the cargo.
Operates heavy machinery (i.e. forklifts, tugs, material handling devices).
Completes the Dangerous Goods certification program and re-certifies as required.
Monitors the movement and documentation of freight and flights (including arrival, data capture, pre-manifesting, and screening) via CARGOTRAC and CORE.
Ensures that Continental's standards, policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and station controls are followed/executed consistently.
Maintains a good working knowledge of all security directives, manuals, tariffs, standards, policies, procedures, and reference materials integral to a safe and efficient operation.
Qualifications
Must have the ability to stand, bend, stoop, and crawl for extended periods of time and lift 100 lbs. repeatedly.
Job requires dependable attendance and punctually.
Must possess a valid STATE driver's license (Suspended, expired, revoked or denied are not considered valid.)
Must have the ability and experience to operate heavy machinery (i.e. forklifts, tugs, material handling devices).
Must train for and pass the Dangerous Goods certification program.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship.
Must be flexible to work ANY shift that is assigned to you within a 24 hour/day, 7 day a week operation which can include late nights, early hours, weekends and holidays.
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to read, write and speak English.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-placement physical (including strength and hearing/vision testing) and drug screen.
In addition to the passing Continental's background investigation, candidate must be able to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position. Position-specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Airport Systems, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal Service clearances.
Training for these positions will be provided by Continental in one of our HUB locations (Newark, Cleveland, or Houston). The training is paid at the hourly starting rate and will require a full time commitment for a period of up to 5 weeks. Must be able to attend the full time training at a date, time, and location to be selected by Continental and must be able to pass all training with a grade of 90% or better.
Must have resided in the United States for at least 4 ½ of the past 5 years (exceptions include: Active U.S. military personnel, trailing a spouse or dependent of someone in the U.S. military, a missionary, a Peace Corps volunteer, an exchange student, an employee of a U.S. based employer/company working abroad, or extraordinary circumstance).
